Recent Style Inspo
I often get asked where I draw inspiration from when it comes to my style and my home, so I thought “why not give the people a glimpse into some looks I’m loving lately.”
If I’m honest, sharing my Pinterest board always feels too intimate—most of the ideas in the board aren’t fully formed—so this feels like a good compromise. As we go through the looks I’ll share my favorite platforms to pull inspiration from digitally, and why the look (or an element of it) is a hit for me.
The first destination that we all probably use for inspiration is Pinterest, and I’m no different. It simply is the place I turn when I have an idea for a color scheme, need ideas for how to style a piece of clothing, or am burnt out and need a kickstart to my creativity. My private (yes, private) Pinterest board for all things fashion is extensive, it’s over 1,000 pins and I’d imagine it’s just going to grow. Anyways, here’s a few of my recent pins and why I pinned them.
If you didn’t know I’m pregnant, and at the start of my pregnancy I couldn’t figure out how to style my new body so I turned to Pinterest as any fashion girly would do. This was one of my first pins which is pretty similar to my personal style. The things I love about this look: it’s effortless and it’s balanced.
For a casual look, this feels attainable yet elevated. She styles a simple cropped tank with baggy jeans, but then adds light layers which give this look visual interest especially with the bell sleeved cardigan layer that peeks out of her jacket. The look is topped off with a Chanel crossbody which brings a luxe aspect to the outfit.
For me, this is a great starting point. It taught me that I like the look of low-rise, baggy jeans with a baby bump, especially paired with a cropped top. The light layers were a great way to stay warm for Winter, considering that most of my cardigans wouldn’t button past the top button anyways, but I could always opt for a jacket on top. This look gave me the basics and then I made it my own by interjecting more color and adding more visible accessories like a hat or fun shoes.
The color red is very much so having a moment right now and since color is an integral part of my personal style, I decided to play along. I pulled this image because I love pairing red with other non-neutral colors, especially blue. You’ll often notice that I style red with denim because it’s an easy way to ensure the color doesn’t lean towards the celebration of a holiday (i.e. Christmas, Valentine’s Day… You get the point). Some other colors I enjoy styling with the color red are: pistachio green, purple, and tones of brown.
Instagram was meant to be a photo-sharing app for people to keep up with the lives of those around them, and that is absolutely NOT how I use it. The people I follow on IG are largely fashion influencers. Not the ones that share product on LTK and are trying to get you to buy some article of clothing from Amazon, but fashion editors, stylists, and the style innovators in the industry. No hate on “fashion” influencers, there’s a time and place for both—honestly, I love to share a cheeky link myself from time to time.
I like to follow these uber-fashionable people because they’re the early adopters of trends and fresh styles from the runway. Many of them have honed their personal styles and share them unabashedly. They inspire me to step out of my comfort zone and explore different aspects of my style.
I’m really dropping a gem with this one. First up, my favorite follow ever: Reese Blustein (@double3xposure), whose style is both effortless and wildly unique. I screenshot this look in particular because I love how Reese juxtaposes the Adidas track pants with this overly feminine top from Shushu/tong. It doesn’t make sense, but it makes sense.
With my own style, I often will style a sporty piece with something feminine, or a preppy piece with something edgy. I love pairing items that shouldn’t go together, yet seem to work. It’s another piece to my personal style.
Next up, is Bettina Looney (@bettinalooney), who is a London-based personal shopper and stylist. She’s a luxury girly, and I love that for her. Her style is elevated and chic and aspirational, but she also shares looks like the one above that’s more on the casual side.
I screenshot this look because I so badly want to style micro-shorts and this felt attainable for everyday. The pairing of the short shorts with this oversized coat is a play on proportions that I simply love. I would probably swap out the heel for a patent loafer and ditch the button down shirt altogether, but this inspired me and gave me a foundation, potentially even with my baby bump.
Vogue Runway
During fashion months, Vogue Runway is my go-to app for fashion shows. Not only does it show the looks that flitted down the runway, but you can find critic reviews as well as streetstyle fashion from the seasons attendees. Vogue Runway is my favorite tool for trend forecasting, and often helps me decide what styles I want to invest in for the upcoming season.
I don’t just look at clothing when pulling inspiration, but at accessories, interesting silhouettes, and the pairing of textures. Each of these facets are part of what makes an outfit visually stimulating. That being said, I recently found this look from Fendi’s Fall 2024 Menswear show. Not only do I love the colors, but their pairing of different textures makes an otherwise simple look, interesting. The corduroy and the sherpa, paired with rich-toned knits and leather plays to the eye in the best way. But note that the “patterns” of the corduroy pants and leather bag are similar as they hold a stripiness that emulates each other. I like this consistency and draw inspiration to hold in my back pocket through the rest of Winter and into next Fall.
I’m going to stop there before the inner workings of my brain overwhelm you, but before I go, I want to shift gears for a second and encourage you with scripture that’s been encouraging me.
Psalm 34 says, “8: Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. 9: Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. 10: The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”
I don’t have much to say about this except that God is faithful. So whatever trial or adversity you’re facing, know that he is good. Know that he is close to the brokenhearted, and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Know that he hears your cries and that he will deliver you. Seek the Lord because those who do lack no good thing.
Be encouraged friend,
Navia
